Canada deports refugee parents who lied

MONTREAL, July 14 (UPI) -- Canada deported a refugee Pakistani couple Tuesday for lying about their past eight years ago, but their four children remained behind in Montreal.

Sabir Mohammed Sheikh, 51, and his wife, Seema, were driven into the United States Tuesday morning, as that was their point of entry into Canada in 2001 as political refugees, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

They originally told immigration officials some of the husband's family had been killed by political activists in Pakistan and that they had fled to Dubai for three years.

However, the Citizenship and Immigration agency recently learned they had spent some 20 years in Dubai, and rescinded their refugee status, the report said.

The couple chose to leave behind two of the their adult children who are in university to care for two younger siblings, the youngest born in Canada five years ago.

The CBC said it wasn't immediately clear if U.S. officials would send the couple back to Pakistan.
