BUCHAREST, Romania, July 13 (UPI) -- Romania's consul to Moldova resigned Monday after a Bucharest Web site posted a video clip showing him having sex with an unidentified woman, officials said.
The Romanian Foreign Ministry confirmed Ion Nuica, Romanian consul general in the Moldovan capital of Chisinau, has resigned, the Hotnews.ro Web site in Bucharest reported.
Nuica resigned only hours after the Romanian Curentul daily online displayed photos and a video showing Nuica having sex with a woman suspected of being an employee at the Romanian consulate in Chisinau, the Romanian Mediafax news agency said.
Nuica submitted his resignation first thing Monday, Alin Serbanescu, a spokeswoman for the Romanian Foreign Ministry told Mediafax.
Serbanescu said Nuica was summoned to Bucharest last week from Moldova for reasons unrelated to the sex scandal.
The Curentul Web site said it received hidden video camera footage but had no idea who taped it.
