JAKARTA, July 13 (UPI) -- An earthquake, initially measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale, was detected about 60 miles southeast of the Sumbra region in Indonesia, officials said.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported the earthquake was about 880 miles east-southeast of Jakarta near Sumba Island, part of the Lesser Sunda Islands east of the Indonesian island of Java.

A USGS seismologist said the information didn't immediately indicate the quake's epicenter.
