WARSAW, Poland, July 13 (UPI) -- A 39-year-old Pole suffered serious injuries in an attack by two men in what Scottish authorities suspect was an ethnically motivated assault, police said.

Jaroslaw Janeczek, employed at an Aberdeen cleaning company, was in a car parking lot when the two men with dogs attacked him before dawn Saturday.

Janeczek's head injuries were severe but not life-threatening and he was recovering in a hospital in Aberdeen, Polish Radio reported Monday.

Aberdeen Detective Inspector Cammy Preston told the Press and Journal police suspected the assault had ethnic elements.

Police were looking for the two suspects, ages 20 to 30.

Activists in the Polish community in Aberdeen said similar hate-inspired attacks against them were on the rise, the radio said.
