Chief's wife faces prison for shooting

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., July 13 (UPI) -- The wife of the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., police chief faces up to 30 months in prison for shooting at her husband, police said Monday.

Eleanor Adderley pleaded no contest before Judge Jeffrey Levenson Monday. The judge set July 20 as the deadline for Adderley to decide whether to accept a plea bargain.

If she takes the deal, sentencing will be Aug. 21. Her attorney, David Bogenschutz said work with prosecutors on a plea bargain started months ago.

The minimum she faces is nine months in the county jail and the maximum is 30 months.

Police said Adderley shot at her husband, Frank, while he was in bed in their Plantation, Fla., home last July and fired two more shots as he ran to a neighbor's house. The first bullet entered the couple's mattress, CBS news reported.

The police report said Eleanor Adderley was angry over an alleged affair her husband had in late 2007.
