NEWMARKET, Ontario, July 12 (UPI) -- Four people remained hospitalized in serious condition Sunday after school bus carrying 33 children overturned near Toronto, officials said.

Three children and the bus driver were taken to nearby hospitals after the bus flipped over Saturday afternoon near Newmarket, Ontario, as it was exiting a highway, The (Toronto) Globe and Mail reported.

Ontario Provincial Police Constable Graham Williamson said rescuers had to extract the driver from the wreckage. His and the children's injuries were serious but non-life threatening, he told the newspaper.

Officials said the bus was transporting children ages 10-15 from a Bible camp in Gravenhurst, Ontario.
