MIAMI, July 12 (UPI) -- The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Sunday Carlos has been downgraded from a Category 1 hurricane to a tropical storm.
The center reported the center of Tropical Storm Carlos moved 1,175 miles southwest of Baja California's southern tip Sunday as it headed west over the Pacific Ocean at speeds of nearly 10 mph.
The storm's speed and path are expected to continue for the next two days, the center added.
Carlos' maximum sustained winds are nearly 70 mph and its force winds have extended out up to 70 miles from the storm's center.
The hurricane center said Carlos is expected to strengthen during the next 48 hours and could potentially return to hurricane status.
The center also said a tropical cyclone could form within the next 48 hours south-southwest of Acapulco, Mexico. A low-pressure cell has produced showers and thunderstorms, the center said.
