GAFFNEY, S.C., July 11 (UPI) -- A North Carolina couple will get $30,000 for the tip police say led them to the man responsible for a serial killing spree in South Carolina, officials say.

The Cherokee County CrimeStoppers Board of Directors voted Friday to give the reward to Michael and Terry Valentine.

A call from the Valentines sent authorities to an abandoned home in Dallas, N.C., where Gaston County police shot and killed Patrick Tracy Burris early Monday.

Police said they believe Burris killed five people in the Gaffney area with a .25-caliber pistol over a period of about a week. He wounded a police officer during an exchange of gunfire in which he was killed by police.
