BEIRUT, Lebanon, July 10 (UPI) -- A French U.N. security official's son was reported kidnapped in Beirut, then released a few hours later with a broken foot, a Lebanese newspaper said Friday.

Mathieu Fever was abducted as he drove through the Bardaro district east of Beirut Thursday, the KUNA news agency said, quoting the newspaper Annahar.

Fever was reported beaten and a foot broken before he was returned two hours later to the spot from where he was grabbed.

Fever, who carried a diplomatic passport, is the son of Jean-Francois Fever, who is responsible of the security of U.N. agencies in Lebanon.
