JERUSALEM, July 10 (UPI) -- Israeli and U.S. officials say they believe Iran has the technical capability to build a nuclear bomb within a year, a senior Israeli government official said.
An exclusive report in The Jerusalem Post Friday said, however, officials from both countries said they doubt Iran will go ahead and build a bomb.
Iran continues to enrich as much low-grade uranium as possible and also continues developing its ballistic missiles, a senior government official was quoted as saying.
There is some concern in Jerusalem the international community may try to push back the timetable on the Iranian nuclear issue due to unrest following last month's Iranian elections, the Israeli official said. He also expressed doubts the international community will agree immediately to impose further sanctions on Iran.
While there have been contradictory reports coming out of Washington about whether Israel had received a green light for military action, U.S. President Barack Obama has been consistent in speaking out against such action, the official said.
