SOFIA, Bulgaria, July 10 (UPI) -- Bulgaria found 42 illegal migrants in a truck transporting peppers as it attempted to cross into Romania at a northern Bulgarian checkpoint, officials said.

Customs officers at the Oryahovo checkpoint found the 42 migrants, most of them from Afghanistan, when they opened a freezer in the truck, the Bulgarian news agency SNA said Friday.

The truck, with Bulgarian registration and owned by a firm in Blagoevgrad in southwestern Bulgaria, had been spotted on numerous occasions at the checkpoint in recent months, customs officials said.

The truck entered Bulgaria from Greece Sunday.

The illegals are to be transported by bus back to Greece, SNA said.
