Boy, 12, allegedly raped schoolmate

OMAHA, July 10 (UPI) -- A 12-year-old Nebraska boy was arrested after a schoolmate said he sexually assaulted her in a bathroom at their elementary school.

Police reports say the girl told investigators the rape took place July 2, the Omaha World-Herald said. The girl, a student at Pinewood Elementary School, told police the boy followed her into the bathroom and threatened her with a knife.

Luanne Nelson, a spokeswoman for the Omaha schools, said Pinewood has an open layout so there are few places where children are not in view of adults during the school day. She said neither the girl nor her family reported anything to school officials until after the alleged rape was reported to police July 4 and that no teachers remember seeing anything amiss on July 2.

The boy was taken to the Douglas County Youth Detention Center after his arrest.
