Law legalizing gay sex challenged in India

NEW DELHI, July 9 (UPI) -- A landmark ruling legalizing gay sex in India last week was challenged Thursday in the nation's supreme court, lawyers reported.

The supreme court issued a challenge notice to the non-profit group that had won a seven-year legal fight to decriminalize homosexual sex. CNN said.

The challenge, seeking an immediate stay, argued the previous law banning gay sex was not unconstitutional. Indian culture and health also were cited as grounds for reversal.
