ALBUQUERQUE, July 9 (UPI) -- Investigators say the 11 women whose bodies were found in Albuquerque appear to have been killed and dumped by the same person.

Eight of the women have been identified, John Walsh, an Albuquerque police spokesman, told CNN Thursday. Walsh said most of those who have been identified were prostitutes and drug users.

The site on West Mesa where the bodies were found was being prepared for development when a dog walker found a human bone in February. Investigators eventually discovered the remains of 11 women, one of them pregnant.

"It's ... likely that the same individual committed the same crimes," he said, "But we have to leave all possibilities open."

Estimates place the deaths between 2001 and 2004, Walsh said.

"We have to leave it wide at this point," he added.
