'The heaviest weapon to carry is one rose'

TEHRAN, July 8 (UPI) -- Stay quiet and carry a rose as your only "weapon," march organizers told protesters in Iran.

That advice came in a pamphlet distributed by supporters of opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi to reduce violence, The Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.

"The heaviest weapon to carry is one rose in the hand," the pamphlet said.

The latest marches, coinciding with continuing protest over the disputed June 12 election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, are to mark the 10th anniversary of the storming of Tehran University dormitories by pro-government militias and the weeks of unrest that followed, the Times reported.

The pamphlet also recommended marchers avoid wearing green -- the official color of the Mousavi campaign -- or "flashy make-up" so they can show the seriousness of their intent. It also recommended demonstrators not bring cell phones or jewelry and carry only an identification card and relatives' phone numbers, the Times said.

If protesters determine the risks are too great to participate in a rally, the circular advised them to walk or drive around in their neighborhoods, flashing the "victory" sign with their fingers.

"Wherever you see the anti-riot police or militia ... hindering you ... change your path," the pamphlet said. "The goal is to keep on going."
