ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, July 8 (UPI) -- A suspected attack by an unmanned U.S. military aircraft killed eight militants and wounded five others Wednesday in Pakistan, Pakistani officials said.
Officials said the drone fired six missiles at suspected mountaintop Taliban hideouts in the village of Karwan Manza in South Waziristan in northwestern Pakistan, CNN reported.
A local resident said the missiles struck a tent area set up by a group of Taliban fighters.
The airstrike came the day after another suspected strike by a drone in the same area of Pakistan near its border with Afghanistan. At least 12 people died and five others were wounded in that attack, officials said.
The area is a stronghold of Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud and believed to be a hiding place for top al-Qaida leaders, reported Dawn, Pakistan's English language newspaper. The Pakistani army has accused Mehsud and his followers of being behind 90 percent of the terrorist attacks in Pakistan in recent years.
