Stolen statue returned to Chicago garden

CHICAGO, July 8 (UPI) -- A Chicago health center says a statue containing the ashes of a gay activist stolen from its garden last month has been returned.

The Howard Brown Health Center said there are no plans to find out who took the sculpture honoring the late lesbian health advocate Mary York since it was brought back in good condition, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Wednesday.

The statue sat in a garden created to honor York, and Lisa Tonna, who both died last year.

York's ashes were mixed with the cement that anchors the sculpture.

"Mary York had the best sense of humor of anyone I've every known," said Paul Fairchild of the Howard Brown Center. "I think she would have forgiven them, and so we must."
