NEW YORK, July 7 (UPI) -- New York City police were searching Tuesday for a man who opened fire with an assault rifle in the lobby of a housing project, killing one person.
The shooting in the Risley Dent Towers in Brooklyn's Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood occurred just before midnight Monday, the New York Daily News reported. Rasheed Craig, 20, died at Kings County Hospital, while his cousin, David Geist, 19, was in critical condition after being shot in the torso, relatives said, and a third man, Robert Harris, 22, was hit in the thigh.
Mona Lisa Williams, 38, told the News she got out of the elevator immediately after the shooting and it was "like a war zone."
"Every time a gunshot went off there was this huge light," she said. "And then Rasheed ran up to me and said 'Mona Lisa, I got shot' and when he lifted up his arms there was blood everywhere."
Investigators said the shooting may have been retaliation for a scuffle earlier in the evening.
