Group keeps 40-year-old murders alive

SAN FRANCISCO, July 7 (UPI) -- A group of crime buffs keeps the case of California's Zodiac Killer alive through Web site reunions and their theories, a group member says.

The group's Ken Hurst told the Bay Area News Group he believes more than one person was responsible for the killing spree in the late 1960s. Hurst is a Treasure Island Job Corps security instructor who uses the case in his classes.

Victims of the Zodiac Killer were in Vallejo, Benicia, Lake Berryessa and San Francisco. The killer sent encrypted messages to the police and the press.

Task force founder Tom Voight organizes meetings "so people can present their theories and information to other people," he said.

Hurst isn't the only one who believes more than one person was involved. Group member Sandy Betts, 70, of Antioch believes she is still stalked by one of the Zodiac Killers. She said he shot at her two weeks ago, just the most recent attack, the report said.
