PAMPLONA, Spain, July 7 (UPI) -- The first day of Spain's annual running of the bulls through the streets of Pamplona Tuesday resulted in four injuries, officials said.
A Scotsman and an American were among those treated for injuries after they slipped during the bull run through the narrow, cobblestone streets of the old Spanish town, but no one was gored, the Daily Telegraph reported.
The newspaper said about 2,000 people took part in the first day of the eight-day San Fermin festival, popularized by author Ernest Hemingway in his novel, "The Sun Also Rises," in which bulls are stampeded through the town on their way to the city's bull fighting ring where they face death later in the day.
The Telegraph said 14 people have been killed since 1911 during the Pamplona bull run. The last death happened in 2003, when Fermin Etxberri, 63, was trampled to death.
