Gov. Sanford admits extramarital affair

COLUMBIA, S.C., July 6 (UPI) -- South Carolina Republican Party members say they are set to discuss how they should respond to Gov. Mark Sanford's infidelity scandal.

CNN said the state GOP executive committee members planned a conference call for Monday to determine whether they should seek Sanford's resignation in the wake of his admitted affair with a woman in Argentina.

The party members could also find Sanford should be censured for his behavior, a lesser penalty for his indiscretions.

Monday's scheduled discussion comes in the wake of two statements from Karen Floyd, the state party chairwoman, who suggests Sanford should leave his governor's post.

Sanford, who has 18 months left on his term, is back in South Carolina after visiting family in Florida.

CNN said the governor is scheduled to meet with Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., for a homeland security briefing.
