RED DEER, Alberta, July 5 (UPI) -- No injuries were reported when a tornado touched down just north of Red Deer, a city in central Alberta.

The funnel cloud dropped into a tornado on the evening of July 4, the Calgary Herald reported Sunday.

Resident Josh Radtke said he looked out his back door after receiving a call from his mother-in-law telling him the funnel cloud was above his house. He saw the cloud forming and watched as it dropped down.

Radtke said he and his wife prepared to take their 6-month-old daughter into the basement in case the tornado grew stronger.

Another Red Deer resident, Kelvin Arendt said he saw a light patch and watched a V-shaped cloud stretch out and suck back in when suddenly "it just dropped down into that snake."

Environment Canada meteorologist Steve Knott confirmed it was a tornado.
