KABUL, Afghanistan, July 5 (UPI) -- Two British soldiers were killed in a clash with Taliban militants in central Helmand in Afghanistan, military sources said.

In fighting Saturday, one soldier was killed by a rocket-propelled grenade and the other soldier by an improvised explosive device during a battle near Gereshk, The Sunday Telegraph reported.

The soldiers' deaths brought to 173 the number of British military personnel killed in Afghanistan since 2001.
