FBI: No Palin investigations ongoing

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, July 5 (UPI) -- U.S. officials say there is no FBI investigation into Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who resigned abruptly last week.

Palin's hasty resignation prompted speculation she was under some kind of criminal probe. But FBI Special Agent Eric Gonzalez, spokesman for the agency's Alaska bureau, said in a phone interview Saturday with the Los Angeles Times that no such investigation was under way.

"There is absolutely no truth to those rumors that we're investigating her or getting ready to indict her," Gonzalez said. "It's just not true."

The Times said Gonzalez added that there was "no wiggle room" in his comments for any kind of inquiry.
