MANILA, Philippines, July 2 (UPI) -- Former Philippines President Corazon Aquino no longer is getting chemotherapy and moved to a private room from a hospital's intensive care unit, a friend said.
Lourdes Siytangco, Aquino's friend and former spokeswoman, told GMANews.TV in Manila Thursday that Aquino "is stable. She is fine," but declined to provide more details.
"Former President Cory Aquino is now out of the ICU and in a private room, a decision she and her children made in consultation with her doctors," Siytangco wrote in her regular column in the Manila Bulletin newspaper.
Aquino was diagnosed with colon cancer last year.
In a statement sent to GMA News, Aquino's daughter, Kris, said her mother was hospitalized because of a loss of appetite "caused by fluid build-up in her stomach area."
Chaplain June Sescon told reporters he was informed the former Philippines president received the Catholic sacrament of the anointing of the sick.
