Black boxes in Yemeni crash possibly found

MORONI, Comoros, July 1 (UPI) -- Crews said Wednesday they may have found flight data recorders from the Yemeni airliner that crashed into the Indian Ocean off the island nation of Comoros.

Meanwhile teams from Yemen, France and African countries near the crash site continued their grim search for bodies and debris from Tuesday's crash of the Airbus 310-300 with 153 people on board, the Yemeni news agency SABA reported. Two U.S. airplanes and two French ships had joined the search.

"It seems like the 'black boxes' have been localized, but are not very accessible, according to information we obtained this morning," Alain Joyandet, a French junior foreign minister told CNN affiliate BFM-TV.

The flight data recorder and a voice and audio recorder record nearly everything about an airplane's operation and can help determine what happened in a crash.

"Unfortunately, there's no hope to find any other survivor," Joyandet said.

So far, searchers have recovered three bodies, officials said. Bahia Bakari, a teenage French girl, is the only known survivor.

The plane carrying 142 passengers and 11 crew members went down Tuesday after taking off from Sanaa, Yemen, for a flight to Moroni, Comoros.

Investigators said they were looking into a number of factors that could have contributed to the crash, including weather and sea conditions.
