NEW YORK, July 1 (UPI) -- A Staten Island ferry slammed into a pier in New York Wednesday evening, leaving at least 15 people hurt, authorities said.

New York Fire Department officials said five of the victims of the accident at the St. George Terminal sustained serious injuries, Fox News reported.

Officials reportedly said the "hard dock" may have been caused by a problem with the terminal ramp. The ferry lost power after the crash but crew members restored power and completed the docking, Fox said.
