DETROIT, June 30 (UPI) -- Two gunmen opened fire on a group of teenagers near a bus stop on Detroit's west side Tuesday afternoon, wounding seven of them, police said.
The victims were four boys and three girls between the ages of 14 and 17. Three were in critical condition, The Detroit News reported.
The shooters, who fired about 15 rounds before running away and possibly getting into a green minivan, were still at large, police said.
B&B Shell gas station owner Steve Hakim said he saw the two young men run across his property with their shirts pulled over their heads, then firing at the students. The victims, he said, "just collapsed; fell down."
"It was pretty scary," Hakim said.
A motive had yet to be determined. The shootings occurred about 2:30 p.m. on a neighborhood known for its gang activity, the News said.
The newspaper said people in the area said the shooting was related to an argument Monday at Cody Ninth Grade Academy.
The Detroit Free Press reported five of the seven victims were summer school students at the school.
Cody Principal Jonathan Matthews told the News nothing out of the ordinary had happened at the school Tuesday.
