Metro train crash in Washington

WASHINGTON, June 29 (UPI) -- Transit officials in Washington, D.C., advised Metro riders to plan for delays Monday as the system got back to normal after last week's deadly train crash.

Metro said Red Line trains were running at reduced speed, particularly between the Fort Totten and Takoma stations where last week's crash killed nine people.

WJLA-TV, Arlington, Va., said Metro also has been fielding a steady stream of calls from commuters concerned about the overall safety of the subway system that serves downtown Washington and its surrounding suburbs.

Most of the concerns center on the 1,000-series of rail cars, which investigators say may have been a factor in the crash. Metro has been rearranging its trains so the older transit cars are lined up in the middle of each between different-model cars.
