NEW BALTIMORE, Mich., June 27 (UPI) -- A Michigan man has been charged with the stabbing deaths of his parents, who police say apparently tried to identify their killer by writing a message in blood.

Ron Jabalee Jr., 40, who was to be arraigned this weekend, has been held in the Macomb County Jail since his arrest Friday on two counts each of first- and second-degree murder.

The Detroit Free Press reported Saturday Jabalee was indicted by a grand jury after the case had gone cold.

Ronald and Christine Jabalee apparently were ambushed in the garage of their New Baltimore home in October 2006. They were beaten and stabbed to death.

One of the victims scrawled out a message written in blood. Police had been unable to decipher the letters, some of which had been wiped away by the killer.

The Free Press said Jabalee's lawyer said his client maintained his innocence and said he missed his parents.
