Congresswoman confirmed for State post

WASHINGTON, June 27 (UPI) -- Rep. Ellen Tauscher, D-Calif., has been confirmed as U.S. undersecretary of state for arms control and international security.

Sen. John Kyl, R-Ariz., ended a hold on the nomination before the voice vote, the San Francisco Business Times reported Friday.

Tauscher has represented the East Bay area outside of San Francisco for seven terms. She heads the strategic services subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee.

Once Tauscher resigns from Congress, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has two weeks to schedule a special election within three months to fill her seat.
