Fireworks ban extended in Houston

HOUSTON, June 26 (UPI) -- Extremely dry weather has prompted Houston's Harris County to extend a fireworks ban past the Fourth of July, county officials say.

County Judge Ed Emmett issued a disaster declaration for the area which prohibits the sale, use or transportation of all stick rockets and missiles with fins, the Houston Chronicle reported Friday.

The ban, which would have expired at noon on Friday, will be in effect until the morning of July 6.

Houston has been gripped by unseasonably warm temperatures and bone dry conditions for weeks.
