Plane flips after landing in Ga. field

ATLANTA, June 25 (UPI) -- Two people escaped with bruises when a plane landed and flipped in a Georgia field where the economic downturn delayed construction of homes, officials said.

The pilot made an emergency landing in the field in rural Newton County Wednesday afternoon, Porterdale Police Chief Wayne Digby told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The Cessna 205 ran out of gas and made an emergency landing, a spokesman from the Newton County Sheriff's Office told WSB-TV, Atlanta.

Federal Aviation Administration investigators said they have not determined why the plane was short of fuel.

Digby told the Journal-Constitution a huge residential development had been planned for the clearing but the economic slowdown put off the project.

The plane, registered to Jay Daniel Abbott of Rocky Mount, Va., and was heading to Peachtree-DeKalb Airport, Digby said.

Authorities had not determined who was flying the plane Wednesday.
