Report: FBI gathers New Orleans city data

NEW ORLEANS, June 24 (UPI) -- FBI agents have set up shop at New Orleans City Hall as part of a possible corruption probe, sources told The Times-Picayune.

An unidentified city official told the newspaper a five-agent team arrived last week armed with subpoenas and began collecting data from the city computer system.

A city of New Orleans spokeswoman would not comment on the apparent investigation.

The Times-Picayune said Wednesday it was not clear whether the subpoenas were connected to an investigation involving the allegations that vendors vying for an anti-crime surveillance camera contract made political contributions to Mayor Ray Nagin.

That investigation picked up steam recently when the city's suspended chief technology officer was ordered to testify before a federal grand jury.
