95-year-old walker dies of injuries

PROVO, Utah, June 24 (UPI) -- A 95-year-old Utah man who fell down an embankment while taking a walk has died of injuries sustained in the fall.

Stanley Jarvis, the man's son, told The Salt Lake Tribune his father, George Jarvis of Provo had a "wonderful peaceful ending" Tuesday afternoon. The younger Jarvis said his father was able to talk to his doctors and to tell his wife he loved her before the end.

George Jarvis spent a night in the open after he failed to return from a walk Friday. A driver noticed something moving just after noon Saturday when Jarvis had been missing for about 24 hours.

He suffered broken bones.

More than 100 people, both police officers and volunteers, joined in a search for him.

He was transferred from Utah Valley Regional Medical Center to University Hospital, where he died.
