McCain says Obama has 'done well' so far

WASHINGTON, June 21 (UPI) -- Republican U.S. Sen. John McCain, who lost to President Barack Obama in last year's election, says his political foe has "done well" so far.

Appearing Sunday on CBS 's "Face the Nation" news program, the Arizona senator said Obama's performance in getting his legislative agenda enacted into law has been impressive.

"I think he's done well," McCain said. "... If you want to look at a legislative scorecard, he has achieved literally every one of his legislative (goals). Unfortunately, it's by picking off a couple of Republicans. It's not been bipartisan."

McCain, however, said despite Obama's success since the November election, there "really hasn't been that change in the climate in Washington" and asserted the president's performances on foreign policy and healthcare reform are "sort of incomplete" at this point.

Also on "Face the Nation," McCain said Obama has failed to find a suitable substitute for the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, prison for holding terrorism suspects. He faulted the president for committing to close the facility by a certain date without having a plan to safely hold the suspects elsewhere.
