KEIZER, Ore., June 19 (UPI) -- An Oregon teenager entered a burning bedroom to save the lives of his younger sisters after fire broke out at their home in Keizer.

Baltazar Delgado, 14, was awakened by a smoke alarm and immediately ran across the hall to the bedroom shared by his two sisters, Fire Marshal Joel Stein told KPTV in Portland.

Stein said Delgado's 10-year-old sister was getting out of her bed but the 6-year-old sister was asleep on the top bunk.

Delgado grabbed her and ran out of the house, saving her from injury, Stein said.

"Baltazar is a real hero and deserves credit for rescuing his younger sister," said Stein.

Authorities say the Thursday morning fire was caused by a candle left unattended on a table near a bed.

Damage to the home is estimated at $25,000, officials said.
