EDMONTON, Alberta, June 19 (UPI) -- A Canadian judge in Alberta sentenced a 62-year-old Edmonton man convicted of possessing a large collection of child pornography to 45 weekends in jail.

Prosecutors sought a one-year sentence for Christopher Hammond after his conviction on the child pornography possession charge, but Judge Paul Sully instead imposed a 90-day sentence to be served on weekends, the Edmonton Sun reported.

Hammond will also be on probation for three years after his jail time and must supply DNA as he will be on the national sex offenders registry for 10 years, the report said.

While on probation, Hammond is banned from having any contact with children under 16 and owning any device that can access the Internet, the judge said.

Police detective Kevin Fald testified he tracked Hammond down using the Internet Crime Against Children Task Force in Wyoming. He said officers found 487 child-porn images on Hammond's computers and 131 child porn videos on CDs.
