LONDON, June 18 (UPI) -- Former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, frail and 83, needs an operation to repair her broken left arm, doctors say.

Thatcher fell at home while dressing last Friday and has been cared for at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital since.

She has been urging her doctors to send her home but they want to pin together the fracture which has not healed. Every time she moves her arm it separates again, doctors say.

Thatcher, who is out of bed, is in good spirits, the Daily Telegraph reports.
