ELYRIA, Ohio, June 16 (UPI) -- A teenager learned Tuesday he will serve at least 23 years in prison for shooting his parents in their Wellington, Ohio, home after they banished a video game.
Daniel Petric, 17, was convicted previously this year of aggravated murder in the slaying of his mother and attempted aggravated murder in an attack on his father. Although his father, Mark, 46, asked for leniency, Lorain County Judge James Burger sentenced Daniel to life in prison with possible parole after 23 years, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reported.
The judge said he believed the youth was addicted to the video game Halo 3 and it altered is judgment. His parents took the game away on Oct. 20, 2007, and Daniel "snapped," his lawyers argued. He killed his mother Susan, 43, and shot his father in their living room.
