JAKARTA, June 16 (UPI) -- A methane gas-triggered coal mine collapse killed at least five people and injured 10 on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, officials said.
At least 30 other workers were believed missing, CNN reported.
"We received reports of the collapsed mine around midday Tuesday (local time). Thirty people are feared still in the mine," a member of the Padang search and rescue team said.
The mine was in the Sawahlunto area, known for its rich coal seams, Ade Edwards, of the local disaster management agency, told China's state-run news agency Xinhua.
"The methane explosion threw 15 people outside the mine hole, and five of them were dead and 10 others were seriously wounded. It is estimated that 30 to 40 miners are trapped underground," Edwards said.
