Child dies when shots hit Vegas-area home

NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev., June 13 (UPI) -- Police in North Las Vegas said Saturday they were investigating the death of an 8-year-old girl who was struck by gunfire from outside her family's apartment.

KLAS-TV in Las Vegas said the shooting happened late Friday night, just hours after a teenager was gunned down in an incident that police do not believe was connected.

The girl, whose identity was not immediately released, was rushed to a nearby hospital but died a short time later. No one else in the second-floor apartment was injured.
