Red Brigade probe uncovers possible attack

ROME, June 11 (UPI) -- An investigation into the Italian terrorist group the Red Brigades has uncovered an alleged plot to attack next month's Group of Eight summit, police say.

Six suspects were arrested after a series of raids scattered across Italy, CNN said. Among them was Luigi Fallico, a former member of the Red Brigades.

Police said the alleged left-wing terrorists had planned to attack the town of La Maddalena, the original location of the summit.

The Red Brigades carried out a wave of bloody attacks in the 1970s in Italy, including the kidnapping and slaying in 1978 of former Prime Minister Aldo Moro.
