Guilty plea made in LSU grade fraud case

BATON ROUGE, La., June 11 (UPI) -- A 25-year-old woman pleaded guilty to charges she offered false information to enroll in Louisiana State University's School of Dentistry.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune said Thursday that Obialunamma Agubuzu admitted in U.S. District Court to obtaining school enrollment and financial aid by incorrectly claiming to have a high Dental Admission Test score and a 4.0 undergraduate grade point average.

The scholastic claims helped Agubuzu receive $35,572 in financial aid and $8,000 in private scholarships.

Agubuzu, along with her roommate Anthony Juan Walker, were indicted on multiple fraud counts on May 21. Walker stands accused of helping Agubuzu with her financial aid scam.

Authorities said Agubuzu actually graduated from Cornell University in 2007 with a grade point average of 2.452 and had never even taken the Dental Admission Test.

The Times-Picayune said Agubuzu, who was caught after a school official examined her actual undergraduate transcripts, faces up to five years in prison. She is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 14.
