Driver, construction worker dead in crash

SACRAMENTO, June 11 (UPI) -- A California driver struck and killed a construction worker early Thursday before dying in a collision with a piece of heavy equipment, police said.

Investigators were trying to determine if the driver, a 26-year-old woman from Sacramento, was drunk, News10.net in Sacramento reported.

The crash occurred in a construction zone marked by red cones in at about 1:30 a.m., police said. California Highway Patrol Officer Jason Gonzales said the construction worker died immediately, the Sacramento Bee said.
