CICERO, Ill., June 11 (UPI) -- Officials in Guanajuato, Mexico, say the Chicago suburb of Cicero will not house a collection of mummies as originally planned.
The Chicago Tribune said Thursday Guanajuato officials have decided Cicero was not the ideal U.S. location for the city's mummy collection, instead tabbing Detroit as the initial destination for the historic artifacts.
The mummies, which are the decades-old remains of Guanajuato residents, will now go on display in Detroit starting in October before touring other parts of the United States.
Guanajuato spokeswoman Esmeralda Mandujano said Detroit was chosen over Cicero mainly due to the Detroit Science Center.
Cicero meanwhile is best known for being frequented by notorious mobster Al Capone, the Tribune said.
"They are the owners of the products," Cristina Saldana, chief of staff for Cook County Commissioner Joseph Mario Moreno, said of the exhibit relocation by Guanajuato officials. "It's their decision."
