MILWAUKEE, June 10 (UPI) -- Police in Milwaukee say they have a suspect in custody in the recent shooting of two police officers.
Police Chief Edward Flynn said one of the officers shot Tuesday by a bicyclist on the city's south side is in critical condition while the other has been listed in satisfactory condition, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Wednesday.
The shooting occurred when the officers, identified as 21-year-old Bryan Norberg and 26-year-old Graham Kunisch, stopped the bicyclist Tuesday afternoon, police said. Kunisch, who is in critical condition, is expected to survive.
Police said Julius C. Burton, 18, was arrested within an hour of the shooting after he allegedly broke into a nearby home.
Flynn praised the community for their help in apprehending the suspect following the shooting, the Journal Sentinel reported.
"This is a moment that tests our discipline as well as our resolve," the police chief said.
"This neighborhood came through today. At every key moment of this investigation, someone from the community stepped forward."
