BRUSSELS, June 10 (UPI) -- Increased security cooperation and better immigration management tops the list of improvements European Commission says it wants to see in the next five years.
Commissioners Wednesday presented their priorities in the justice realm, which envisions tighter control of borders and smoother communications between European police forces to better tackle organized crime and terrorism, the EU Observer reported.
"Organized crime progresses without caring about national frontiers," EU Justice Commissioner Jacques Barrot told reporters in Brussels, calling for the establishment of an exchange program for police and better usage of an existing program for judicial staffs.
The publication said European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso also appeared at the news conference and said the justice proposals have been designed to "promote citizens' rights, make their daily lives easier and provide protection."
