U.S.: Man made second threat to Obama

LAS VEGAS, June 9 (UPI) -- U.S. officials say a man arrested in Nevada for allegedly making threats to kill President Barack Obama also made similar threats a week earlier.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Amber Craig said Monday in Las Vegas that Daniel James Murray, 36, threatened the president's life on May 22 in Los Angeles and then later allegedly told a Utah bank teller, "We are on a mission to kill the president of the United States," the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

Murray appeared Monday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert Johnston, who ordered him detained, the newspaper said. He was arrested by Secret Service agents Friday night in the parking lot of a Laughlin, Nev., casino.

Craig told the magistrate that Murray entered a Los Angeles Fire Department facility where his father once worked, put two bullets and a religious compact disc on a secretary's desk and said he was "going to go see the president," the Review-Journal reported.

The prosecutor said Murray's parents have told U.S. officials their son suffers from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and has refused medical treatment.

Obama was in Las Vegas May 26-27, but the newspaper said there is no indication that Murray also was in the city then.
