NEW YORK, June 9 (UPI) -- Accused New York mobster John Angelo Gotti was unable to appear in court on racketeering charges and may need surgery, his lawyer said.
Gotti, son of the late "Dapper Don" John Joseph Gotti, Jr., remained in his cell Monday in a federal jail in Brooklyn suffering from damage caused by kidney stones last summer, his lawyer Charles Carnesi said.
At Monday's pre-trial hearing, federal Judge Kevin Castel ordered a full report on Gotti's condition be given to the court by Friday, The New York Daily News reported.
Gotti, 45, is charged with conspiring in three killings and trafficking in cocaine in the 1980s and 1990s. His trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 14, the News said.
Gotti, sometimes called "Gotti Junior," has been held in jail since his arrest last year. His father, the boss of New York's Gambino crime family, was convicted in 1992 of racketeering and 13 killings. The elder Gotti was sentenced to life in prison where he died in 2002.
